About Me

Hi, I’m Jay — an Electrical Engineering student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where I’m also pursuing minors in Psychology and Semiconductor Engineering. I like building things that sit right at the boundary between hardware and software, where a bit of careful circuit design and a bit of code have to meet in the middle.

My primary interests are chips and embedded systems — I’m drawn to problems where I can reason about a system end to end, from the silicon and the signal, up through the firmware, to the behavior you actually see. Secondarily, I enjoy working in robotics and machine learning, which give me larger systems to point that low-level thinking at. My minor in psychology also quietly shapes how I approach design and problem-solving.

What I’ve been working on

• Pressure Piano (ECE 145) — a pressure-sensitive electronic piano with analog tone generation and pressure-based volume control. Details are in my portfolio.
• Dental panoramic X-ray segmentation — a deep-learning approach (U-Net + CBAM) for segmenting the maxillary sinus and mandibular canal, published at the BioImage Computing Workshop, ECCV 2024. You can read more on my publications page.
